Generative engine optimization: get recommended by the machines your buyers ask.

Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the work of getting your business cited and recommended inside AI answers from Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, and Copilot. WynterIX makes you a source those engines trust, then measures citation share monthly against a fixed panel of buyer prompts.

What GEO is, in one paragraph

GEO is the discipline of being named inside answers that AI engines write. Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, and Copilot no longer just list links. They assemble a reply from sources they trust and cite a handful of them, sometimes recommending a business by name. GEO is the work of becoming one of those trusted sources for your category, so that when a buyer asks an AI who to hire, your business is in the answer.

Separate sources linked into one generated answer, with your business among them.

How AI engines choose what to cite

There is no secret prompt and no hidden switch. Engines cite sources that are easy to understand, consistent, and confirmed by others. The signals are known. Most businesses simply do not work on them with discipline.

Entity clarity
The engine can tell exactly who you are, what you sell, and where. An entity is the business as a distinct thing machines recognize.
Consistent facts
Your name, services, area, and credentials read the same on your site, your listings, and every mention. Conflicts make engines hedge.
Original data
Figures, benchmarks, or findings that exist nowhere else. Engines cite the origin of a fact, not the tenth page repeating it.
Third-party corroboration
Independent sites, publications, and directories that confirm what you say about yourself.
Structured pages
Answer-first pages with question-shaped headings and schema, the code that labels content for machines, so a passage can be lifted cleanly.
Freshness
Pages that are maintained and dated. Stale facts get replaced by newer sources.

The WynterIX GEO program

The program runs in a fixed order, because each step depends on the one before it. It shares its page work with our answer engine optimization (AEO) service, since the passages that win featured snippets are the same ones AI engines lift.

  1. Entity audit

We ask the engines about you and your category, and record what they say, what they get wrong, and who they recommend instead.

  2. Canonical fact set

One approved record of your business facts, applied to every page, profile, and listing we control.

  3. Answer-first page rebuilds

Your key pages rewritten so each buyer question gets a direct, quotable answer backed by evidence.

  4. Original research and data pages

Pages built on data only you hold, such as process benchmarks or cost ranges from your own work, so engines have a reason to cite you.

  5. Corroboration placements

Contributed articles and mentions in outlets named in your roadmap. You know every target by name before we pitch it.

  6. Monthly prompt tracking

The same panel of buyer prompts run across the engines every month, with the raw answers saved.

Metrics that mean something

GEO is measured against a fixed prompt panel: a set list of the questions your buyers actually ask, agreed in week one and run every month. Fixing the panel is what makes month-to-month numbers comparable.

Citation rate
The share of panel prompts where an engine links to your site as a source.
Mention rate
The share of prompts where your business is named, with or without a link.
Recommendation rate
The share of prompts where the engine suggests your business as a choice.
Share of voice
Your mentions compared with every competitor named across the same panel.
AI referral sessions
Visits to your site that arrive from AI engines, taken from your analytics.

Every report includes the raw prompts and the raw answers, not just a score. You can rerun any prompt yourself and check our work.

What GEO cannot do

GEO has limits, and they are worth stating before you apply.

  • It cannot make a weak business a recommended one. Engines read reviews, complaints, and coverage, and they repeat what they find.
  • It cannot be bought with links. Link volume does not buy trust from a model, and spam placements can damage it.
  • It does not spike. Engines refresh their sources on their own cycles, so gains arrive gradually.
  • It compounds. Each corroborating source and each maintained page makes the next citation more likely.

That last point is the reason to start. The businesses engines trust today are building a lead that gets harder to close each month.

What to expect, and when

  1. MONTH 1

    Foundations

Technical fixes, tracking, content architecture, first builds.

MEASURABLE: Crawl health, indexation, baseline citations

  2. MONTHS 2 TO 3

    Activation

Pages live, entity and schema work, first AI citations, first ranking movement on long-tail terms.

MEASURABLE: Impressions, first page-two and page-one entries, first AI mentions

  3. MONTHS 4 TO 6

    Compounding

Head terms move, citation share grows, automation is fully wired, leads are attributed.

MEASURABLE: Qualified leads per month and cost per qualified lead

  4. MONTHS 7 TO 12

    Defend and expand

New markets, new service lines, more of what worked.

MEASURABLE: Growth against the month six baseline

Ninety days is our minimum because it is the shortest period in which anything we do becomes measurable. If someone promises a turnaround in thirty days, they are selling you the promise, not the turnaround.

First citations typically appear in the activation phase, months two to three, once rebuilt pages are live and facts are consistent. Citation share grows in the compounding phase, months four to six. Firms that sell on expertise, like the professional service firms whose buyers ask AI first, often see mentions before referral traffic.

The week-one roadmap and monthly measurement process set the prompt panel and the reporting rhythm. Program terms and starting figures are on the GEO pricing and commitments page.

Frequently asked

What is the difference between GEO, AEO, and SEO?

SEO (search engine optimization) earns a ranking in Google's classic results. AEO (answer engine optimization) earns the quoted answer in snippets and voice replies. GEO earns a citation or recommendation inside answers that AI engines write. We run all three as one program because they share the same foundations.

Which AI engines matter?

The ones your buyers use. For most businesses that means Google AI Overviews and AI Mode first, then ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini, with Claude and Copilot tracked where they show up. The prompt panel is weighted toward the engines that matter in your category.

Can you guarantee a ChatGPT mention?

No. No one controls what a model says, and anyone who guarantees a mention is selling the promise. We guarantee the work, a fixed measurement panel, and raw results every month.

How do you track it?

We run a fixed panel of buyer prompts across the engines every month and save the full answers. From those we calculate citation rate, mention rate, recommendation rate, and share of voice. AI referral sessions come from your own analytics.

Does my industry get cited at all?

The entity audit answers that in week one. Most service categories already produce AI answers that name businesses or sources. If yours does not yet, we say so and weight the program toward classic search until it does.

Do I need new content?

Usually some. Many existing pages can be rebuilt answer-first, which is faster than starting over. Original data pages are almost always new, because they are the strongest reason for an engine to cite you.

What does the report look like?

One monthly document and one call. It shows the prompt panel, the raw answers, the four rates against the previous month, AI referral sessions, and what we change next. Nothing is hidden behind a dashboard login.
